Our Community

At Westwinds, we promote the “friendly neighbour” policy– everyone looks out for their neighbours and themselves. For example, if someone hears a thump in the night, that may indicate someone has fallen.  In such situations, we ask that our Residents contact our on-site Caretakers.  Caretakers can then look into the case and ensure that everyone is okay. In addition, we conduct wellness checks on Residents if there is a concern for their safety.  This policy builds community at Westwinds and instills a sense of security for everyone.

Every day we host a coffee hour in the Resident’s Lounge, a very popular event, where the lounge is buzzing with people sitting around tables, deep in conversation, browsing our library, working on a puzzle or using the lounge’s internet café. In addition, people often gather around the big screen TV to watch the daily news or a sports game.

At Westwinds, there is always the opportunity to share space with others.  Our Resident Lounge plays a pivotal role in our community; it is an important place where people can connect daily, promoting emotional wellness by reducing social isolation.

We have many social activities on our monthly calendar with groups for hobbies and interests, Everything from Tai Chi to Bridge to a walking group.

The Men’s Shed
At the Squamish Men’s Shed, we provide dependable equipment in a safe workshop environment that allows members to create an assortment of projects.

The Squamish Men’s Shed is a group of senior men with a woodworking workshop who volunteer their time on non-profit community projects.

The Men’s Shed movement started in Australia in 2007, expanding their tradition of backyard sheds into collaborative, communal spaces.
